VOLUNTEER

Share your time and talent. We could not do this work without the power of kind, passionate people who roll up their sleeves and help where they can. Throughout the year our volunteer opportunities change. Currently, our emergency shelter program has amazing ways to make a difference to those experiencing homelessness. Please click on the following links to access our volunteer sign up genius.

If you have a unique talent or resource you would like for us to consider, please email us at connect@matrixhousingservices.org and we will follow up with you as soon as possible.

Volunteer to Host
We are seeking sites to host our rotating shelter in Dakota County so if you know of a space which can fit 50 mats and has been outfitted with a sprinkler system for fire safety please call our main office and connect with our staff.  If sites are located near a bus line, have showers, an area to serve meals, store in-kind donations and finally have a small space for staff work this would be most ideal.

Serve Dinner at the Shelter
We need groups to plan, purchase, and prepare a meal for 60 people. Then serve it at 7:00 p.m. at the shelter and clean-up afterward. Typically, some group members have time to eat dinner with shelter guests. If your group wants to sign-up to serve dinner, the coordinator should sign up here:

Be a Shelter Aid in the Evening or Overnight
Evening Shelter Aids are at the shelter 5:45-10:00 p.m. to help open the shelter, check-in guests, distribute supplies, visit with guests, and assist staff with cleaning and other duties.

Overnight Shelter Aids are at the shelter 10:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. to help staff with setting out breakfast, waking guests, doing laundry and other cleaning, and closing the shelter. There is typically time to sleep during the overnight shift. Matrix staff will be awake the entire night and onsite for support.

All people interested in volunteering as a Shelter Aid must pass a background check and attend a volunteer training. You can sign up for shelter aid shifts after your scheduled volunteer training.

Shelter Moves
We will be moving between sites on Saturdays throughout the winter. We need 10-12 volunteers to move the mats, linens, and other shelter supplies. If you are interested in helping with the moves, sign up here:
